The National Executive Committee (NEC) and the entire membership of the
Ghana Association of Writers (GAW) congratulate the Association of
Nigerian Authors (ANA) on the occasion of the 39th International
Convention to be held from December 3-6, 2020, in the historic and
cultural city of Ilorin, Kwara State.
GAW recalls the long-standing relationship between Nigerian and Ghanaian
writers since the heady days of the 1960s through to the 1980s. This
cooperation has been heightened in recent times by the pleasant teamwork
between GAW and ANA, leading to reciprocal visits of executive members
of both associations to Accra and Lagos in 2018.
In August this year, ANA has given to African writers, Dr. Wale
Okediran, the Secretary-General of the Pan-African Writers Association
(PAWA) with Secretariat in Accra, Ghana. GAW is proud to host Dr.
Okediran, and glad about the cordial working relationship with him, thus
GAW is mindful about the extraordinary contribution that ANA has made in
literature and the creative arts towards social and economic development
of Nigeria. It is the hope of GAW to work together with ANA under the
auspices of PAWA to create the necessary policy frameworks to ensure
that literature and the creative arts thrive, and the culture of writing
and reading is bolstered.
GAW therefore assures ANA of its unrelenting solidarity and profound
interest in the deliberations at its 39th International Convention.
Long live GAW-ANA cooperation!
President, Ghana Association of Writers
